Anti-corrosion methods for gas pipelines

Gas pipelines are buried underground or exposed to the natural environment for a long time, and are easily affected by factors such as soil, moisture, and oxygen, leading to corrosion. Corrosion will not only reduce the service life of the pipeline, but may also cause safety hazards such as gas leakage. The anti-corrosion methods of gas pipelines mainly include the following:

Insulation layer anti-corrosion method: Coat a layer of insulating material on the outer layer of the gas pipeline, such as petroleum asphalt, epoxy coal tar, adhesive tape, powder epoxy or PE heat shrink material, etc., to isolate the pipeline from direct contact with the external environment to prevent corrosion.

‌Electrical protection method: It includes cathodic protection and drainage protection. The cathodic protection method uses an external power supply or sacrificial anode to make the pipeline a cathode to prevent corrosion. The drainage protection method is to drain the interference current through the drainage device to protect the pipeline from current corrosion.

‌Chemical protection method: The chemical protection method can enhance the corrosion resistance of the pipeline by using chemical reagents or materials. This method is more common in industrial pipelines and other fields.
