The product has an outer diameter range of 21.3–1067 mm and a wall thickness of 2–150 mm, with derived variants including multiple grade sub-types such as X42N and X42Q.
The API 5LX standard, first issued in 1947, incorporated the X42 steel grade into its specifications, defining its minimum yield strength as 289 MPa. Available in PSL1/PSL2 grades, it can be supplied as stock or customized products, suitable for both coupling connections and welding applications. With advancements in welded pipe technology, X42 line pipe has become dominant in large-diameter transmission applications.
