What is an X46 pipe?
API 5L X46 pipeline pipe is a kind of pipeline steel pipe used in oil and gas industry with the following characteristics:
Standard & Version:
Based on API 5L 46th-2018 standard, which covers a wide range of applications such as gas, water and oil transmission.
Divided into two product specification levels, PSL1 and PSL2, of which PSL2 has more stringent requirements for carbon equivalent, notch toughness, maximum yield strength and tensile strength.
Chemical Composition:
According to PSL-1 grade, C content ≤ 0.28%, Mn content ≤ 1.40%, P content ≤ 0.030%, S content ≤ 0.030%, Cu content ≤ 0.50%, Ni content ≤ 0.50%, Cr content ≤ 0.50%, Mo content ≤ 0.15%.
For PSL-2 grade, C content≤0.24%, Si content≤0.40%, Mn content≤1.40%, P content≤0.025%, S content≤0.015%, Nb content≤0.05%, V content≤0.07%, Ti content≤0.04%, Cu content≤0.50%, Ni content≤0.30%, Cr content≤0.30%, and Mo content ≤0.15%, B content ≤0.004%.

Mechanical properties:
Yield strength: PSL-1 grade ≥290MPa, PSL-2 grade between 320MPa and 525MPa.
Tensile strength: PSL-1 grade ≥415MPa, PSL-2 grade between 435MPa and 655MPa.
Elongation: ≥1940* axc0.2/4350.9, where axc is the cross-sectional area of the tensile specimen.
Outside diameter and wall thickness tolerance:
Outside diameter tolerance varies according to the outside diameter of the tube, for example, the deviation of the outside diameter at the end is -0.8, +0.4 mm for <60.3 mm, and -0.4, +1.6 mm for 60.3≤d≤168.3 mm.
The wall thickness tolerance also varies according to the wall thickness of the pipe, e.g. +0.6, -0.5 mm for ≤4.0 mm and +0.150t, -0.125t mm for 4<t<25 mm.
