What is the difference between X42 and X60?

Chemical composition
Carbon content: API 5L X42 has a carbon content of 0.18%-0.28%, while X60 has a carbon content of 0.20%-0.26%.
Manganese content: X42 has a manganese content of 1.0%-1.6%, while X60 has a manganese content of 1.10%-1.55%. The manganese content of X60 is relatively closer to the upper limit.
Alloy elements: The amount and type of alloying elements added to X60 may be different from those in X42. For example, X60 may contain more appropriate amounts of alloying elements such as chromium, molybdenum, and nickel to improve its strength and corrosion resistance. The specific composition varies depending on the manufacturer and process.
Mechanical properties
The minimum yield strength of X42 is 290MPa, while the minimum yield strength of X60 is 414MPa. The yield strength of X60 is significantly higher than that of X42. In addition, the tensile strength of X42 is 415MPa, X60's tensile strength is 517MPa, and X60's tensile strength is also significantly higher than X42.
Application scenarios
Due to its higher strength, X60 is more suitable for oil and gas pipeline systems with higher transmission pressures, and can better withstand the high-pressure environment in the pipeline to ensure the safety and stability of the transmission process. In contrast, X42 is suitable for scenarios with relatively low pressure requirements.
