API 5L X46 Carbon Steel SAW Pipe description
In the API 5L standard, X46 is a higher-grade pipeline steel classified as L450 with a yield strength of approximately 460 MPa. The "X" in X46M indicates compliance with API 5L specifications. This grade is designed to balance strength, toughness, and ductility to adapt to complex construction environments.
In terms of material performance, X46 welded pipe demonstrates excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. It achieves a minimum yield strength of 46,000 psi (approximately 317 MPa), with tensile strength ranging between 415-760 MPa and elongation of no less than 22%. Through micro-alloying design and controlled rolling and cooling processes, this steel achieves a good balance between strength and toughness. Notably, the X46 welded pipe maintains high Charpy impact energy even at -20°C, which is crucial for oil and gas transportation in cold regions.
