Application:
API 5L: Mainly used for line pipe in the oil and gas industry, covering pipelines for the transport of natural gas, oil and water. This pipe can be seamless or welded steel pipe.
A106: Carbon steel pipe mainly used for high temperature service, commonly used for boiler and superheater pipework. This steel pipe is usually seamless and manufactured using sedum steel.

Chemical Composition:
API 5L: Requires a carbon content of not more than 0.28 per cent, manganese content between 0.29 per cent and 1.20 per cent, phosphorus and sulphur content both of which do not exceed 0.030 per cent, and no specific limit on silicon content.
A106: The content of carbon does not exceed 0.30 per cent, the content of manganese is between 0.29 per cent and 1.06 per cent, neither phosphorus nor sulphur exceeds 0.035 per cent, and the content of silicon exceeds 0.10 per cent.

Mechanical Properties:
API 5L: Specified tensile strength greater than 414 MPa, yield strength greater than 241 MPa, conversion elongation (%) and impact test conditions in accordance with Standard Clause A.
A106: Tensile strength greater than 415MPa, yield strength greater than 240MPa, elongation not less than 16.5%, and impact testing is required.
