ASME SA-179/SA-179M is a common American seamless steel pipe standard for seamless cold-drawn low-carbon steel pipes for heat exchangers and condensers. These steel pipes have a minimum wall thickness and are suitable for tubular heat exchangers, condensers, and similar heat transfer equipment. This standard applies to steel pipes with outer diameters between 1/8 inches and 3 inches (3.2 to 76.2mm).
SA179 corresponds to China's No. 10 seamless steel pipe. SA179 and A179 are actually No. 10 seamless steel pipes. In China, No. 10 seamless steel pipes are often used for heat exchange tubes of heat exchange equipment that is not directly exposed to fire, and have similar application scenarios as SA179.
ASME SA179 seamless pipes will be manufactured through a consistent process and will be cold-drawn. Carbon, manganese, phosphorus and sulfur elements are added to the steel. The steel will also undergo hardness test, straightening test, flaring test, rib test and hydrostatic test to ensure the physical properties of ASME SA179 superheater pipes.
