Heat treatment is an important part of the steel pipe production process. By controlling the heating, insulation and cooling process of the steel pipe, the organizational structure and performance of the steel pipe can be changed to meet the requirements of different application scenarios.
The heat treatment processes of L360 pipes are mainly as follows:
Normalizing: Normalizing is a heat treatment process in which the steel is heated to above the critical temperature, kept warm for an appropriate time, and then cooled in the air. For L360 pipes, normalizing can refine the grains, improve the uniformity of the organization, and improve the comprehensive mechanical properties of the steel, providing a good foundation for subsequent processing and use.
Quenching + tempering:
Low-temperature tempering (150-250°C): Tempered martensite structure is obtained, which can reduce internal stress and brittleness while maintaining the high hardness and high wear resistance of quenched steel, and prevent cracking or premature damage during use. However, this process is generally less used for L360 pipes themselves, and is more used for other high-carbon steel products such as high-carbon cutting tools.
Medium temperature tempering (250-500°C): Tempered troostite structure is formed, which can obtain high yield strength, elastic limit and high toughness. It is suitable for L360 pipeline components with high requirements for strength and toughness, such as some pipeline connection parts that need to withstand high pressure and require certain toughness.
High temperature tempering (500-650°C): Tempered troostite structure is produced. The quenching and tempering treatment combined with quenching and high temperature tempering can make L360 pipeline obtain good comprehensive mechanical properties of strength, hardness, plasticity and toughness. It is widely used in important structural components of L360 pipeline system, such as some key support parts, connecting pipes, etc.
