API 5L L360M straight seam pipe is a high-performance fluid transport pipe widely used in energy transportation fields such as oil and natural gas. This steel pipe conforms to the API 5L standard, is made of L360M material, and possesses excellent mechanical and weldability properties, meeting the transportation requirements under harsh environments such as high pressure and high temperature.
characteristic
L360M straight seam welded pipe belongs to the PSL2 grade pipeline steel in the API 5L standard. In its naming, "L" represents pipeline steel, "360" indicates a minimum yield strength of 360 MPa (52,000 psi), and "M" indicates a Thermo-Mechanical Controlled Process (TMCP). This material achieves a balance between high strength and good toughness through microalloying design and controlled rolling and cooling processes:
1. Chemical Composition: Designed with low carbon (typically <0.16%) and low sulfur and phosphorus (<0.025%), with the addition of microalloying elements such as Nb, V, and Ti, improving strength while ensuring weldability.
2. Mechanical Properties: Yield strength >360 MPa, tensile strength 460-760 MPa, elongation >20%, Charpy impact energy at -20°C >40 J, meeting harsh environmental requirements.
3. Special properties: Passes HIC (hydrogen-induced cracking) and SSC (sulfide stress corrosion) tests, suitable for acidic environments containing hydrogen sulfide.

Applications and Advantages
Long-Distance Oil and Gas Transportation
The West-East Gas Pipeline III project adopts a mixed transmission scheme of X80M and L360M pipes. The L360M pipe sections are used in geologically unstable areas, utilizing their excellent deformation capacity (bending radius up to 40D) to adapt to terrain changes.
Offshore Platform Riser
In a gas field development project in the South China Sea, specially treated L360MSE (acid-resistant version) welded pipes are used as production risers. The wall thickness design increases the corrosion allowance by 2mm, and a composite structure of a 3LPE anti-corrosion layer + concrete counterweight layer is used, extending the service life to 30 years.
Urban Gas Pipeline Networks
In the high-pressure Class A pipeline network renovation projects in megacities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, the Φ508×11.1mm specification pipe has become the preferred choice due to its excellent seismic performance (able to withstand a ground acceleration of 0.4g). Data from a supplier shows that the procurement volume for such urban projects increased by 35% year-on-year in 2024.
Special Environment Applications
The Kazakhstan section of the Central Asia-China Gas Pipeline uses approximately 120 kilometers of L360M straight seam welded pipe, which has undergone low-temperature verification at -45℃ and achieved a 100% DWTT (Digital Wave Test) pass rate.
In the photovoltaic support field, thin-walled L360M welded pipe (wall thickness 2.5-4mm) is used, with a life cycle cost 18-22% lower than that of traditional Q235 materials.
