What is ISO 3183 pipeline

What is ISO 3183?

ISO 3183 is a standard developed by the International Organisation for Standardisation for technical conditions of delivery of steel pipes for transmission in the oil and gas industry. This standard specifies in detail the quality requirements, test methods and delivery conditions for steel pipes to ensure their safety and reliability in oil and gas transmission systems.

Specifically, the following aspects are included in the ISO 3183 standard:

Classification and quality requirements for steel pipes: the standard specifies different types of steel pipes (e.g. seamless and welded) and classifies them according to their quality requirements into three grades: A, B and C. Grade A is the most basic quality requirement, whereas additional toughness requirements and suitability for use in special environments have been added to grade B and C. The standard also specifies that the quality of steel pipes shall be based on the quality requirements of the pipe and that the pipe is suitable for use in special environments.
Technical Delivery Conditions: These include specific technical requirements for the manufacture, testing and inspection of steel pipes to ensure that they can be used safely in oil and gas transmission systems.
Scope of application: applies mainly to seamless and welded pipes of non-alloyed and alloyed steel (except stainless steel) which are used for the transport and distribution of flammable and non-flammable liquids.
The ISO 3183 standard has been developed to provide a uniform quality standard to facilitate international trade and engineering co-operation and also to safeguard the safety and efficiency of oil and gas transmission systems.
