What is oil casing

What is oil casing?

Casing is pipe usually larger in diameter and longer than drill pipe and is used to line the hole. Casing operations occur periodically throughout the drilling process starting with the surface casing, intermediate casing, and ending with production string which takes place during well completion.

What is casing used for?

Casing serves both aesthetic and functional purposes. It provides a finished look to the edges of windows, doors, posts, and beams, covering gaps and rough edges. In its steel tube form, casing is used to support and stabilize drilled holes, preventing collapse and contamination.

What is the casing material?

The operation during which the casing is put into the wellbore is commonly called "running pipe." Casing is usually manufactured from plain carbon steel that is heat-treated to varying strengths but may be specially fabricated of stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, fiberglass, and other materials.

What are the grades of oil well casing?

API Casing Steel Grades

Common Application Casing (H40, J55, K55, M65, N80, R95)

Corrosion-Resistant Casing (L80,C90,T95, C110)

Deep Well Casing (P110, Q125)

What are the disadvantages of casing while drilling?

Casing While Drilling Disadvantages
We also often encounter higher annular pressure losses (APL) and equivalent circulating densities (ECD) due to the tighter annulus, which can increase the risk of fracturing weaker formations.
