Chemical composition
X46: Usually contains basic elements such as carbon, manganese, phosphorus, and sulfur. The carbon content is generally below 0.24%, the manganese content is about 1.20%, and the phosphorus and sulfur contents are controlled below 0.030% respectively. It may also contain a small amount of alloying elements such as niobium, vanadium, titanium, etc. The addition of these alloying elements helps to refine the grains and improve the strength and toughness of the pipe.
X65: The carbon content is relatively low, generally not exceeding 0.09%, the manganese content is relatively high, reaching about 1.60%, and the phosphorus and sulfur contents are also controlled at a low level, not exceeding 0.020% and 0.004% respectively. The content of alloying elements such as niobium, vanadium, titanium, etc. is also strictly limited, and the total content of elements such as chromium, nickel, copper, etc. is also correspondingly regulated to ensure the high strength and good welding performance of the pipe.
Mechanical properties
Yield strength: The minimum yield strength of X46 is 460MPa, while the minimum yield strength of X65 is 531MPa. The yield strength of X65 is significantly higher than that of X46, which means that X65 can withstand greater pressure without plastic deformation.
Tensile strength: The tensile strength of X46 is generally between 530MPa-655MPa, while the tensile strength of X65 is between 531MPa-655MPa. The tensile strength ranges of the two are relatively close, but the lower limit of X65 is different from that of X46. The yield strength of X46 is equivalent to that of X65, which means that its overall strength is higher.
Elongation: The elongation of X46 is generally not less than 20%, and the elongation of X65 is not less than 24%. X65 has higher strength and maintains good toughness.
Application areas
X46: Due to its balance of strength and toughness, it is suitable for some pipelines that do not have particularly high pressure requirements but have certain requirements for corrosion resistance and economy, such as general oil and natural gas transmission branches, and low-pressure fluid transmission pipelines in some industrial fields.
X65: Due to its higher strength and good toughness, it is mainly used in pipeline systems with high pressure and high strength requirements, such as long-distance oil and natural gas trunk pipelines, and oil and gas pipelines in harsh environments such as deep sea and high cold, which can meet the transportation needs of large flow and high pressure.
