API 5L X42 Seamless and ERW Pipe description
X42 steel pipe, also known as L290 line pipe, is a low-carbon microalloyed steel pipe compliant with API SPEC 5L standard. Manufactured through Mn-Mo-Nb-Ti microalloying design and controlled rolling/cooling processes, it achieves a minimum yield strength of 290MPa (42ksi), hence the name "X42" derived from its yield strength grade. This material offers excellent weldability and resistance to hydrogen-induced cracking (HIC), while maintaining stable impact toughness even in -20°C low-temperature environments, making it an economical and reliable choice for industrial pipeline transportation.

Chemical Composition

PSL2 grade improves corrosion resistance by reducing carbon content (minimum 0.18%) and strictly controlling sulfur and phosphorus (both ≤0.015%), while adding Nb and Ti to refine grain structure and enhance toughness. The carbon equivalent index directly affects weldability, ensuring on-site pipeline welding quality.
Yield strength and Tensile strength

The yield strength of 290 MPa can withstand high-pressure transportation conditions, and the impact toughness at -20°C ensures pipeline safety in cold regions. PSL2 grade is divided into delivery conditions such as R (rolled) and N (normalized) to meet the anti-deformation requirements of different geological environments.
