ASTM A556 seamless steel pipe is mainly used for high temperature heater systems to provide long-term stable operation in harsh working environments, especially in boiler and superheater applications.
A556 cold drawn tube should be heat treated at 1200°F [640°C] or higher after the last cold drawing to ensure satisfactory ductility, can be rolled into tube sheet and meet the specified mechanical properties. If stress relief annealing of U-bends is specified, A556 U-tube annealing should include heating the bent section in the range of 1100 to 1200°F [585 to 640°C].
