ASTM A139 is the standard specification for electrofusion (arc) welded steel pipe (NPS 4 and above).
ASTM A139 SSAW Carbon Steel Pipe This specification covers five grades of electrofusion (arc) welded spiral seam steel pipe. This pipe is used to transport liquids, gases or vapors. Spiral seam steel pipes with outer diameters from 219mm to 3500mm and wall thickness of 25.4mm.
SSAW stands for "submerged arc welding" and is one of the methods used to weld steel pipe joints. SSAW pipe is manufactured by forming coils of hot-rolled steel into a cylindrical shape and then welding the seams using submerged arc welding.
ASTM A139 spiral steel pipe is mainly used for transporting fluids such as oil, natural gas, water, etc., as well as for general structural purposes such as bridges, buildings, etc.
