What is the difference between line pipe and Octg

What is the difference between line pipe and Octg?

OCTG (Oil Country Tubular Goods) and Line Pipe are both steel tubing used in the oil and gas industry, but they have slightly different uses and standards.

OCTG (Oil Country Tubular Goods):

OCTG includes finished oil casing, drill pipe, drill collars, splices, stubs, and more. These pipes are mainly used in the exploration, development and production phases of oil and gas.
The standards for OCTG are mainly set by API (American Petroleum Institute), such as API 5CT specification for casing and tubing, API 5D specification for drill pipes, etc.
There are many different types of OCTG, and their sizes, materials, and strength ratings vary depending on the environment and function in which they are used.
Line Pipe:

Line pipe is mainly used for long-distance transport of oil and gas, and its standards are mainly defined by the API 5L specification.
Line pipe is generally larger in size and is suitable for mainline transmission lines, feeder transmission lines and urban network lines.
Compared with OCTG, line pipe pays more attention to the pressure and corrosion resistance of the transport medium, so its material and manufacturing standards have special requirements.
To summarise, OCTG covers a wider scope, including all kinds of pipes used for drilling and production, while line pipe mainly refers to steel pipes used for transporting oil and gas. The two differ in terms of the environments in which they are used, the materials they are made of and the standards they are held to.
