What is OctG used for

What is OctG used for?

Oil Containment Tubing (OCTG) is a specialised steel pipe designed specifically for oil and gas exploration, extraction and transmission. These pipes need to be able to withstand extreme pressures, corrosive environments and complex stresses thousands of metres underground, and are the 'vascular system' of oil and gas wells, directly affecting the life of the field and the efficiency of extraction.

Main applications of OCTG
Drilling: Used for drilling boreholes, transmitting torque to the drill bit and delivering drilling fluids to cool and clean the drill bit.
Production: Used in oil wells to extract oil, gas, inject water and perform operations such as acidising and fracturing.
Borehole Stabilisation: Supports the borehole wall by casing to prevent borehole collapse.
Grades of OCTG
OCTG is available in different steel grades depending on its use and properties:

Casing: Used to build up the well wall and isolate different formations, the main sizes range from 660mm (26 inches), common steel grades include L80, J55, N80, etc.
Tubing: Used for extracting oil and gas from oil wells, its steel grades include J55, N80, L80, etc. Appropriate steel grades are selected according to the conditions of different oil and gas wells.
Drill pipe: used to transmit rotary force and pressure to the drill bit, its steel grade includes E75, G110, etc. It is selected according to the drilling depth and geological conditions.
