What are the different types of ERW welding?

ERW straight seam welded pipes are mainly divided into two forms: ERW AC welded steel pipes and ERW DC welded steel pipes. ERW straight seam welded pipes are divided into low-frequency welding, medium-frequency welding, ultra-medium-frequency welding and high-frequency welding according to different frequencies. High-frequency welding is mainly used for the production of thin-walled steel pipes or ordinary thick-walled steel pipes, and high-frequency welding is divided into high-frequency induction welding and high-frequency contact welding. ‌
‌High-frequency induction welding‌: This welding method generates eddy currents in the workpiece through high-frequency current, heats the workpiece locally to a molten state, and then applies pressure to complete the welding. The advantage of induction welding is high weld quality, which is suitable for welding steel pipes of various materials and thicknesses, but the energy consumption is high‌.
‌High-frequency contact welding‌: Contact welding is to directly contact the workpiece and apply pressure, and at the same time pass current to melt the workpiece locally and complete the welding. The advantage of contact welding is low energy consumption, but the weld quality may not be as good as induction welding, and the quality cost is higher‌.

Advantages and disadvantages of ERW welding

‌Advantages‌: ERW welding has the advantages of high production efficiency, low cost, material saving, and easy automation, and is suitable for various industrial sectors‌.
Disadvantages: ERW welding may produce defects such as gray spots, lack of fusion, and groove corrosion at the weld, and can only produce small and medium diameter pipes.
