What are the drill pipe grades?
The API SPEC 5DP standard specifies the technical conditions of delivery for three product specification classes (PSL-1, PSL-2 and PSL-3) of steel structural drill pipe with thickened body ends and butt-welded drill pipe joints for the oil and gas industry and for oil recovery operations. The requirements of PSL-1 form the basis of the standard, with refinement of the technical requirements for the different classes PSL-2 and PSL-3.
The standard covers the following steel grades of drill pipe:
E grade drill pipes, the
High Strength Grade, X, G and S. The standard gives typical drill pipe structures, defines the main elements and lengths as well as the main dimensions and qualities of the drill pipes of each steel grade.
