What coatings are on carbon steel pipes?

The coatings on carbon steel pipes mainly include the following types:
Anti-corrosion coating
Anti-corrosion coating is a substance covering the metal surface. Its function is to isolate the metal from the surrounding medium to control the corrosion of the pipeline. This coating needs to have good electrical insulation and waterproof properties, be able to adhere tightly to the surface of the pipeline, and have the ability to resist chemical erosion and a certain mechanical strength. Common anti-corrosion coating materials include epoxy resin, polyethylene adhesive tape, etc.
Epoxy resin coating
Epoxy resin coating is widely used in the field of anti-corrosion. It has excellent adhesion, chemical corrosion resistance and mechanical strength. In carbon steel pipelines, epoxy resin coating is often used on both the inner and outer walls to prevent corrosion and wear problems.
Polyethylene coating
Polyethylene coating is also one of the common anti-corrosion coatings. It has good chemical resistance and mechanical strength. It is usually applied to the outer wall of carbon steel pipelines to protect the pipeline from erosion by the external environment.
Other coatings
In addition to epoxy resin coatings and polyethylene coatings, there are other types of coating materials, such as coal tar enamel, petroleum asphalt, etc. In recent years, polyolefin coatings have been widely used abroad and are favored for their excellent performance.
Construction and maintenance methods of carbon steel pipe coatings
Surface treatment
Before coating construction, the surface of the carbon steel pipe must be thoroughly cleaned and treated. This includes removing oil, grease and rust, which is generally achieved by solvent scrubbing, alkali washing and water washing.
Primer and topcoat
Primers are used to enhance adhesion, and epoxy primers such as epoxy primers or epoxy zinc-rich primers are usually selected. Topcoats are used to form the final protective layer and are generally used in conjunction with primers.
Regular inspection and maintenance
After the coating is completed, a series of tests are required, including impact resistance, peeling resistance and electrical insulation tests. In addition, regular inspection and maintenance are also essential to ensure the effectiveness of the coating.
