Equivalent Material and Specific Values of L245 Steel Pipe
1. International Standard Equivalence
- API 5L Standard: L245 corresponds to Grade B of PSL1, a commonly used material for oil and gas pipelines. Its tensile strength ≥ 415 MPa and yield strength ≥ 245 MPa (data from API 5L-2018 specification).
- ASTM Standard: Equivalent to ASTM A53 Grade B, commonly used for low-pressure fluid transportation, with a yield strength also of 245 MPa (ASTM A53-2020).
- ISO 3183 Standard: Marked as L245NB or L245MB (N/M represents delivery condition), with mechanical properties consistent with API 5L.
2. Equivalence in Chinese Standards (GB/T)
- In GB/T 9711-2017, L245 corresponds to "L245R" or "L245N", where R indicates hot rolling and N indicates normalizing treatment. Its chemical composition and mechanical properties are consistent with international standards.
- In GB/T 3091-2015 (Low-Pressure Fluid Transmission Pipes), the equivalent material is Q235B. However, it should be noted that the yield strength of Q235B is 235 MPa, slightly lower than that of L245 (245 MPa).

Conversion Methods for L245 and Other Materials
1. Strength Conversion Principles
- If replacing L245, ensure the yield strength and tensile strength of the new material are not lower than the original requirements. For example, ASTM A106 Grade B (yield strength ≥ 240 MPa) is acceptable, but A106 Grade A (205 MPa) is not applicable.
2. Chemical Composition Comparison
- L245 has a carbon content ≤ 0.22% and a manganese content ≤ 1.2%, similar to API 5L Grade B. However, note the difference in sulfur and phosphorus content (ASTM A53 has stricter sulfur and phosphorus limits).
3. Application Suitability
- Chemical Pipelines: ASTM A53 Grade B or GB/T 8163 20# steel can be used (strength verification required);
- High-Pressure Gas Pipelines: API 5L PSL2 Grade B is preferred due to its additional impact toughness requirements.
