What is the difference between steel pipe X52M and X52N

X52 is a grade in the API 5L oil pipeline steel standard and belongs to pipeline steel. N and M both refer to the delivery state, N is deformation normalizing, and M represents thermomechanical rolling or thermomechanical forming. Delivery without heat treatment is called hot rolling or cold drawing (rolling) state or manufacturing state; delivery after heat treatment is called heat treatment state, or according to the type of heat treatment, it is called normalizing (normalizing), quenching and tempering, solid solution, annealing state.

In detail:
‌ In the delivery state, X52M: represents thermomechanical rolling or thermomechanical forming. In this state, the steel pipe is not heat treated and is delivered directly.
‌X52N: represents deformation normalizing state. In this state, the steel pipe is heat treated, usually called normalizing state.
‌ In the manufacturing process, X52M: manufactured by controlled rolling process, this process can control the microstructure and mechanical properties of the steel pipe, and is suitable for the production of high-pressure pipeline steel pipes.
‌X52N‌: Manufactured through a normalizing process that allows the steel pipe to obtain better structure and properties, and is typically used in applications that require higher strength and better corrosion resistance‌

Application scenarios,L360M‌: Due to its high strength, good toughness and strong corrosion resistance, it is often used in the production of high-pressure pipeline steel pipes and is suitable for industries such as petroleum, chemical industry, and power.
‌L360N‌: Due to its heat treatment, it has better mechanical properties and corrosion resistance, and is suitable for occasions with higher requirements on material properties.
