What is the difference between X46 and X80 pipes?

Chemical composition
X46: Carbon content is generally below 0.24%, manganese content is about 1.20%, phosphorus and sulfur content are controlled below 0.030%, and may also contain a small amount of alloying elements such as niobium, vanadium, and titanium.
X80: Carbon content usually does not exceed 0.09%, manganese content can reach about 1.83%, phosphorus and sulfur content do not exceed 0.011% and 0.0006% respectively, alloying elements such as niobium, vanadium, titanium, etc. are strictly limited, and the total content of elements such as chromium, nickel, and copper is also regulated accordingly. The silicon content is generally about 0.28%
Strength level
‌X46 pipe‌: The strength level of X46 pipe is 46kpsi (approximately equal to 320MPa).
‌X80 pipe‌: The strength level of X80 pipe is 80kpsi (approximately equal to 555MPa). X80 pipe has a higher yield strength and can withstand greater pressure and load.
Applicable scenarios
‌X46 pipe‌: Due to its lower strength level, X46 pipe is suitable for some occasions with low strength requirements, such as some ordinary pipelines.
‌X80 pipe‌: Due to its high strength and good comprehensive performance, X80 pipe is more suitable for high-pressure and high-strength pipeline systems such as long-distance transportation of oil and natural gas, and can meet more stringent use requirements.
Implementation standards and delivery status
‌X46 pipe‌: Implementation standards may include API Spec 5L, etc., and the delivery status is generally hot-rolled or normalized.
‌X80 pipe‌: Implementation standards include API 5L standard, GB national standard, etc., and the delivery status is mainly hot-rolled and normalized. The specific delivery status should be specified in the contract according to customer requirements.
