API 5L X46 PSL1 PSL2 Seamless Line Pipe description
API 5L X46 steel pipe is a pipeline material produced according to the standards issued by the American Petroleum Institute (API). As a globally recognized specification for pipeline tubing systems in the oil and gas industry, API 5L imposes strict requirements on the material, mechanical properties, chemical composition, and manufacturing processes of steel pipes.
X46 represents the yield strength grade of the steel pipe, with a minimum yield strength of 46 ksi (kilopounds per square inch), approximately 317 MPa. This steel is typically made from carbon steel or low-alloy steel, with heat treatment and alloy additions used to achieve the required strength and toughness.
API 5L X46 steel pipe must not only meet strength requirements but also ensure corrosion resistance, low-temperature toughness, and weldability in harsh environments. Therefore, it cannot be compared to ordinary Q235B steel.
