What is the difference between API 5CT L80-1, L80-9Cr and L80-13Cr?

Although API 5CT L80-1, L80-9Cr, and L80-13Cr belong to the L80 steel grade (with a minimum yield strength of 552 MPa), they have significant differences in chemical composition, corrosion resistance, and application scenarios.

L80-1: It is a common low-alloy steel with a chromium content of ≤ 1.0% and no special corrosion resistance. It is suitable for non sulfur conventional oil and gas wells.
L80-9Cr: containing about 8.5-9.5% chromium, it has good resistance to CO ₂ corrosion and is suitable for medium corrosive environments, such as deep wells containing carbon dioxide.
L80-13Cr: Contains 12-13.5% chromium and adds elements such as molybdenum and nickel to form a "chromium based passivation film". It has excellent resistance to CO ₂, H ₂ S, and chloride ion corrosion, and is specifically designed for deep wells or marine oil fields with high sulfur and high acidity conditions.
