What is ASTM A135 material?
ASTM A135 Welded Pipe is the standard specification for electric resistance welded steel pipe. It covers two grades of ERW steel pipe in sizes NPS 2 to 30 with a nominal (average) wall thickness not exceeding 12.7 mm inclusive, and nominal sizes NPS 3/4 to 5 with a nominal (average) wall thickness is 2.11 mm to 3.40 mm, depending on size.
The biggest difference is that A135 welded steel pipe is only manufactured using resistance welding methods, while A53ERW pipe includes three pipe manufacturing methods. Another difference is that A53 piping must be hydrostatically tested, while the A135 specification allows non-destructive eddy current or ultrasonic testing in lieu of hydrostatic testing.
