The difference between cold rolled tube and cold drawn tube

Cold rolling and cold drawing are both cold working processes, but the forming process and principle are different, the process equipment is different, the forming capacity is different, and the purpose is different.
Cold rolling is a cold working method in which a slab with a temperature below the recrystallization temperature is rolled into a required thickness by a roller; cold drawing is a processing method in which metal is pulled from a hole by external force.
It should be said that the dimensional accuracy and surface finish of the two are similar, because in the standard, cold drawing and cold rolled pipes are generally uniformly specified, and of course the price is similar.
However, the difference between the two is that for small-sized pipes, cold drawing must be used to produce them. The precision and surface quality of cold-drawn tubes are better than those of hot-rolled tubes, but their caliber and length are subject to certain restrictions. The outer diameter can reach 6mm, the wall thickness can reach 0.25mm, and the outer diameter of thin-walled tubes can reach 5mm, and the wall thickness is less than 0.25mm‌. The dimensional accuracy and surface quality of cold-rolled tubes are higher, but the mechanical properties are not as good as cold-drawn tubes.
Cold drawing is more suitable for small-sized steel pipes, but it is difficult to use cold drawing for pipes with a diameter of more than 150mm.
